7 Tips to Planning a Stress-Free Baby Moon

Hello Everyone!

Paige + Mike are working together today, and we’ve got some great tips for planning your perfect babymoon! So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get you ready for the ultimate stress-free BABYMOON!

We’re sure you have heard this before, but we will say it again, “Having a child changes everything!” For this reason, there is no more important vacation than your BABYMOON (step aside honeymoon). A babymoon gives you and your spouse an amazing opportunity to connect without the distractions of everyday life before your little bundle of joy arrives. The last thing you need is stress and anxiety getting in the way of strengthening your relationship.

It’s not about the amount of money you spend and it’s definitely not about the potential Instagram worthy pictures you will get out of your trip. The name of the game is connecting. We still look back on our Babymoon with great appreciation for what it gave to us and our relationship.

We will apologize in advance for the sappy post as we take a walk down memory lane and reflect on what our babymoon did for us. It was a ceremonial end to an era and the beginning to our crazy, but the wonderful journey as parents. As we weave bits and pieces of our trip throughout the post, we hope that you like what you read, and fell more than welcome to wash, rinse and repeat our trip!

Ok, that’s enough anticipation for one post. Let’s get you to the real deal. So, if you are expecting or expecting to be expecting, you are in the right place! Sit back, relax, maybe grab a snack (or two), and enjoy our 7 Tips to Planning a Stress-Free Baby Moon. We promise these tips will get you moving on the trip your relationship needs!

1. Don’t Worry About the Length

We know that life can be hectic and preparing for baby probably doesn’t help. However, the great thing about a babymoon is the opportunity to connect with your spouse, not the length.

We were living in Germany at the time and had returned to California for our close friend’s wedding and a small work trip. We didn’t have time to do some extravagant trip spanning weeks (We know you see these type of trips all over your social media, or at least we do). And don’t get us wrong, one of those trips would have been AMAZING but, we had a few free days in the middle of the trip to work with. So, we decided to rent a car and get away for two nights. That’s right, the AMAZING babymoon that we talked up before was only two nights long.

Would we have loved to vacation longer? Of course, we would! But we live in the real world with real limitations. So, if life is only going to give us two days, then we are going to take those two days and run with it.

We know that finding time for a vacation can be tough, but a babymoon is more than just any other trip. If done right, it can really solidify your marriage right before the biggest life-changing moment. Because when your baby comes, everything will change. Take a hard look at your calendar and we are sure you can fit something in. Remember, there is no set amount of time that will make or break your trip.

2. Pick a Peaceful Location

Let’s start with an exercise, close your eyes and imagine you are completely calm without out a care in the world. Use this feeling to build a place in your mind. What type of things do you see in this place?

Palm trees, a sunny pool deck, and a relaxing spa. When we close our eyes and picture our dream chill-laxing vacation, this is what we see (New Dad Tip: Your dream should probably match your pregnant wife’s dream). And for this Southern California family, Palm Springs makes that dream a reality.

Palm Springs (just a two-hour drive from the chaos of Los Angeles) offers amazing pools, abundant sun, amazing spas and as the name probably gives away; palm trees. It was the obvious choice for our family. Using the satellite view on Google Maps and after combing through TripAdvisor reviews, we discovered the JW Marriott Palm Desert. We didn’t have to think twice about our choice. This hotel had everything we were looking for and more.

Maybe, you pictured mountains or maybe a beach or people watching from a super cute cafe or sailing the seas on a cruise ship. Whatever you saw when you closed your eyes earlier, find a location that gives you that calm feel. The location of your trip will be the foundation that your babymoon is built on.

3. Don’t Overload Your Schedule

One of the biggest mistakes you can make on your babymoon is planning so much that you don’t have time for each other. Later on, we will talk about what you should do with your time, but for now, let’s focus on what you should not.

We kept our agenda for our two-night vacation short and sweet:

Day 1: Check-in – 3:00 PM
Day 2: Couples Message – 1:40 PM
Day 3: Sit by the pool – All Day
Day 4: Head home – 11 AM

We hope you catch the trend for each day. We did not overload our schedule whatsoever. We left PLENTY of time to do whatever felt right. We also knew that we were in desperate need of relaxation and rejuvenation.

If you know us, then you know this is completely out of character for our typical vacation. We are PLANNERS and when it comes to vacations, we usually pack it full of activities (Very similar to the way someone in our family packs a suitcase for a flight…we are always pushing that 50 lbs. limit).

We had to force ourselves to pack light (definitely not referring to the suitcase anymore) when it came to booking activities and the results were amazing. For babymoons, we will give you an easy equation to remember less = more. Because when you plan fewer activities, you gain more time to connect.

4. Find Relaxing Activities

If you are going to plan activities, make sure they are ultra-relaxing. By the time you will be getting around to taking this trip, the struggle that is pregnancy will be in full effect. Feet, hips, belly and even your brain will HURT.

So, what did we do to get relaxed? We booked a spot at the hotel spa for a spectacular couple’s massage. Yes, husbands, you can get in on the relaxation action if you sell it right (Google: Couvade Syndrome). Now, It was time for us to kick up our feet and soothe those aches and pains.

This was our only true “activity” on our babymoon and you better bet it was relaxing. We spent the remainder of the day getting the most bang for our buck. We took a tip in the spa’s tranquil pool, drank super refreshing drinks and laid back in the relaxation room. Of course, no spa day is complete without raking those tiny sand gardens while listening to a soft melody of harps and peace.

Make sure that whatever you chose to do on your trip, make sure it is relaxing in every way. You don’t want to give stress an opening to invade your vacation. So, pick a cucumber over your eyes type activity and just be calm.

5. Give Plenty of Time for Rest

We hit this point pretty hard before, but it bears repeating: Pregnancy is exhausting. So not only do you need to find relaxing activities, but you need to plan for lots of rest and maybe even some naps!

While pregnant, Paige became the master of the nap. She probably slept more than she was awake each day and that was GOOD. When it came to planning our babymoon, we made sure to pencil in those naps.

Even if napping isn’t your cup of tea, finding time to get your feet up is important to yourself or your pregnant wifey (depending who is reading this post) and all the wonderful side effects of pregnancy. Yes, we are talking about those swollen ankles, throbbing hips and less than fun feeling in your tummy. Spending some much-needed time in the horizontal and less time vertical position can really have a positive impact on your trip!

6. Plan to Pamper and Soothe

Did we mention the spa already? But this really means so much more than one trip to the spa. Husbands, this one falls on you. While your beautiful wife rests, you need to be rubbing those feet or messaging her shoulders.

Or maybe she doesn’t want to be touched (more often than not for us during pregnancy). Maybe she just needs a refreshing beverage or a long soak in the tub. Whatever it is, make it happen and be excited to do it! She is carrying the most precious cargo, so treat her like it.

The JW Marriott Desert Springs was absolutely amazing when it came to their infused waters. Multiple times each day, Mike would ride the elevator down five floors and walk across the expansive lobby just to fill up a small plastic glass of water to bring back up to the room. But, can you guess what was always on his face? That’s right, a genuine smile.

This shows just one example of the many ways, Mike would show his dedication to this concept. We hate to say it, but pregnancy is just the beginning of the journey and it will be an exhausting one. Take time to tend to those aches and pains, because it might be your last opportunity for quiet some time.

7. Rekindle the Romance

Finally, but definitely not least, break out your smooth moves and plan some romantic opportunities. We are going to tell you it straight, your “us time” will be severely limited once baby arrives.

Now, the extent that this romance takes you will be up to your beautiful wife. The ups and downs of pregnancy will have your wife going from 0 to 100 back to 0 again. You won’t be able to predict the swings prior to the trip so just make the opportunities and see where the nights take you.

After baby, finding the time and peace needed for true intimacy may be difficult. It is important to seize every opportunity that life gives you. Babymoons should be about connecting at every level of your relationship and building a strong foundation.

Now you’ve got all the tools you need to plan your BABYMOON today! We know that if you follow these simple tips that your trip will give your relationship exactly what it needs.
